First Captures

It's here! We were excited to receive the TrailCam, and unpack it to reveal a a small but hopefully capable camera and 32GB MicroSD Card. It looked perfect for what we want to do with it - sturdy, waterproof, light and compact. It came with a small but also pretty decent (and long) strap which can be fastened around branches, posts, trees etc, so the camera is well held in place. The menu is clear and easy to get used to, and the LCD screen for viewing what you've captured is also generous and clear.

The very first night of setting up the camera in the woods to the east of Broombank revealed nothing. The second night we tried it behind our steading, and again, no luck. So, I took the camera up to the woods on Pittenderich, and set it up on a well trodden mountain bike and walking path, close to the fire track/road, and waited till the next day... and we got a deer! Interestingly she came right up to the tree and sniffed around where I'd been standing to work out what was going on:

Hello camera!

The next location was back in the woods to the east of Broombank, although this time an off piece of venison was left out to see what was attracted. The result was pretty impressive! The venison was left out let on the 1st October, so the time stamps indicate how long after that there was activity.

First to the scene was a (mourning?) deer followed by Mr Badger:

Next up was Mr Badger again, almost 24 hours later, followed then by Mr Fox, Mr Badger again and finally a deer:

There was further activity the following night with deer and badger again:

Then it was a fox, badger combination the next night:

Finally some more daylight shots of deer:

All in all, some great activity! Really happy with the camera's detection and the infrared light strength, as well as the quality of the videos and the photos. Good lesson for the next setup is to make sure any attraction is a bit nearer the lens in the brighter light area.
